When there is excessive Substance Abuse, the individual’s relationships with their family and loved ones can become strained. The family and friends may also experience stress as they find they feel helpless to help their loved one.
For the individual, as they learn about the cause and how they can change this habit they have developed, it is also necessary for them to gain more perspective into their relationships, so that they have the confidence to approach their friends and family with understanding and bridge the gap that has formed.
For the other, it is important to have an understanding that their stress is not caused by the substance abuser themselves, it is caused by what they belief about the situation and what it means about them. From this point they can reconnect with their loved one in a healthier way.
